Everyday products can have defects that put their users in danger
Dangerous and defective products cause thousands of serious injuries and deaths each year. Manufacturers often place more of a priority on profit than safety, and we are here to fight them when they cut corners.
Products in every area of life can be dangerously defective, including:
- Automobiles/automotive parts
- Faulty hinges
- Products laced with carcinogens/toxic substances without proper warnings
- Plumbing parts
- Home appliances
- Tools
Products can be defective in three distinctive ways:
- Design Defect: When a product is being designed it needs to meet the needs of its purpose without putting the user in unreasonable risk. If the design neglects user safety or is inherently flawed in a way that puts the user at risk, the product is defective.
- Manufacturer Defect: If a product has been designed correctly but corners get cut during manufacturing, it has a manufacturer defect. This means that either the design wasn’t followed or sub-par materials were used to create the product, lowering the quality and increasing the risk to the user.
- Marketing Defect: Some products are risky despite being designed and manufactured correctly. If this is the case, it is up to the people marketing the product to warn users of its risks. This is why pharmaceutical ads are required to list all potential risks and side effects, and why cars have user manuals and warnings on dangerous parts. If a company fails to properly warn users, they have a marketing defect.
